MLK Community Mural

Let the Children Sing

Named after a composition by famed African American composer Harry Burleigh (Erie-born), this piece was made by the participants of the Erie Martin Luther King Center’s after school program. Roughly 75 children from ages 6-12 took part in tracing the outlines of their bodies, making construction paper collages, and creating kente patterns.  All of these unique creations found their way into this highly collaborative, colorful piece.  In the background, a colorful stanza of the mural’s namesake proudly highlights the talent that permeates Erie’s Our West Bayfront neighborhood.
